Although it originated in Peru, the humble wooden box that forms the cajon can now be spotted all over the world. The sheer popularity of this seemingly simple percussive instrument is much-loved for the rich and complex grooves it can be made to produce. The CP430 2inOne cajon has been built by giants of the percussion world, Schlagwerk, and is a deluxe twist on the original. The box is made of 7-ply alder and loaded with 82 spiral snares so that you're getting a great 'snare' as well as a deep 'kick' response from this instrument. For a more traditional Cuban-style cajon sound, the snares can also be removed.

A Peruvian Box

Cajon is very literally the Spanish word for 'box', and the instrument we now know as the cajon, first originated in Spanish colonial Peru where, when their drums were taken from them, imported African slaves rebelled by beating out rhythms on crates instead. Now, the cajon is a popular instrument all over Peru and the rest of the world. What makes it so popular is that it offers a kind of complete percussive kit in one - giving you a kick, snare, and ghost-notes that serve as a kind of high-hat replacement. The cajon is also insanely practical, easily portable, and the instrument itself doubles as a playing stool.
